Mom’s Chicken and Dumplings


1 Cooked Whole Chicken

pull chicken off the bones


 2 cups plain flour

1 tsp salt

1 Tbsp. shortening

cut  shortening into flour and salt and add enough cold water or chicken broth to make a  med stiff dough.

Mix all together and roll out on  board thinly and cut into stripes about 1 inch . cup strips into shorter stripes (I usually cut mine in 2 inch strips). Drop into hot broth ;

 Do not stir much as it will  break up the dough.  I just lift from the bottom as not to stick. Drop in chicken and stir in and serve hot.  One of my husbands favorites.Southern style Cornbread

Preheat oven to 400 degrees with the skillet in oven. I use a 10 inch iron skillet ( a good hot skillet will make a nice crispy crust.

Southern Style Cornbread

2 cups self rising cornmeal

1/4 cup oil

1 egg

1 cup to 1 1/3 cups buttermilk

Your mix should be like cake batter consistency bake until golden brown and will be delicious
